Why did the people weep as narrated in the 1st reading? They felt sad because they realized they had been ignorant of God’s laws. But then they chose to rejoice because they were no longer in the darkness of ignorance. Likewise, Jesus wants to deliver us from the darkness of sin, indifference, and ignorance.
